The Adventures Of…
The Glitch of Glyphe’ and little byrd
As far as a STYLE? We’re into pretty much all styles and genres of music and art. We have fun experimenting, seeing what we can do with what’s out there. All genres of music are welcome, and they all get blended up in our projects. We come from all of those areas so it’s just natural to have it reflect in what we do and you can experience how genuine and original the concepts and hearts and minds behind them are, in how we blend, bend, and twist all of those in this project and get some actual original sounds and thoughts out there. We’ve always been called “ahead of our time” but timeless is more like it— call it a natural reflection of the infinite timeless Creator. Commercial artists end up doing what we did a long time ago… everyone’s all shocked like, “No one’s ever done this before!” and we’re like, “We did that two years ago.” Individuals (some groups) are ready, and have been waiting and looking for this for a long time. The world? The world’s not ready but, so what… here it is. Most artists are trying to live up to some imaginary image they created, and in that they’re killing their self and stuffing their self into a mold made by an industry out to bleed them for money, then trash them to be replaced by another. The images they put out end up being what kills them and the world— it’s what they became an artist to escape but they become a cog in the system. We’re not doing that. God made human beings— dope ones— and let us be able to do this so that’s what we’re doing. We keep everything in house as much as possible, so everything you experience (writing, recording, mixing, editing, audio & visual and whatever else)... that’s us. How are you?
The SOUND is a wave of expression touches on every facet of being: even with the instrumentals and beats (two different things) you’ll get some comical and catchy, to free or experimental, some deeply spiritual and real, some raw gritty no punches pulled savagery, some dark, some DARK dark… There’s a lot of gratitude, a lot of reflection, a lot of it is pretty chill, even some colorful blends of sounds and styles light years ahead… all done how it’s done for a reason. No, i’s not always easy or fun, but it is what it is. Some stories don’t get told because people think no one will listen but some of those are the ones people have been waiting for because everyone keeps running the other way, not speaking their mind, selling out, holding back out of fear or to be liked or whatever. Nope. This is real life and living it… in all of the art. This is that spark, that breath of life and fresh air..., It sounds and feels like YOU and hopefully inspires you to do this and more, and better! Its the humanity pushing for divinity that the industry kills in artists and sucks out of the music to sell you crap. Take what’s for you. Leave the rest… it’s for someone else. BE HONEST ABOUT IT. “Don’t get mad, get right.” as one fella said. This ain’t about being number 1 or liked, or fame. It’s about BEING (BEING BEing Being). It’s about getting right and back to good before getting out of here or getting got. And “it’s about time!” All of that impressive stuff we’ve done and grown from and moved on. Once you learn what you have you should respect it, so this is us being respectful with the gift. Yeah, we’re human beings and will have human moments— no doubt. It’s all a part of the adventures….
Inevtable, innasence
The Mistah Wilson Intro… The True Spitters studio spaces on Sacramento St, in Altadena, Ca. were always very alive, always buzzing with artists and projects on all different levels. They were 2 home studios set up in apartments across the walkway from one another— so you could look out the window or sit on one porch and yell across to the other studio directly across from you. If the doors were open (and the booths not being utilized) you sit and relax and hear another project being developed, get inspired, and then go back in and work on yours. One of those projects in the works was the True Spitters Volume 1 Mixtape, which featured a few of the first artists in True Spitters before the roster exploded in all directions, styles, genres… but you could get a sense of that on that mixtape. It was around this time that The Glitch of Glyphe’ (B. Bruce) and little byrd (J.Moore) were first introduced by another powerhouse, Bing Bing a.k.a. Mistah Wilson (creator and owner/editor of The Pasadena Music Scene, Wilson Block 100 Radio, Tha Wilson Block Magazine, and a few other entrepreneurial successes way beyond what would be expected from someone Bing’s age). byrd was living in Pasadena, CA, USA, and met Bing through Phil Phree, when byrd was playing bass with Latoya Rhodes who also knew Bing. In fact, EVERYONE knew Bing from his extensive work in not just being one of the most relentless and prolific artists in the Pasadena, Altadena, Gardena (everything Dena) areas, but also his passion for causes and to spotlight everyone else as well! Bing IS the music scene. Anyways, so, one day Bing brings The Glitch of Glyphe’ over to “The Nest” to meet up with the T.S. crew and talk about some collabs with his crew, RENEGADE CAMP. Glyphe’ would come by after and check in on things to see what was going in and where he could help out, even cranking out something like 100 hooks for songs in an hour or two in one session. Both he and byrd were well oiled machines, even more— factories— when it came to creativity and cranking things out. Each recognized the other’s similarities and versatility as well as diversity in style and potential and it didn’t take too long for the two to test the waters in a few tracks.
Ask anyone who was around at the time, in the labs, especially in “The Nest” the beats and instrumentals, and pen pushing, never stopped. Between Crooked Noize (T.S. producer), little byrd, and any of the other artists who had something, it was one of those places an artist could walk in the doors and say, “Hey I got this idea—” and before they could finish the thought they heard the beat or saw the image that completed the sentence. It was nothing to come in and hear, “Hey, what new music are you working on?” and then hear a world of sounds unfold… and then you’d scramble for paper and a pen… and find a spot… and write. One of the beats playing one evening, was more of a demonstrational thing, where byrd was working on a song and showing someone else how the program ACID worked. Everyone was digging the beat but it was one with a vibe that was so chill and esoteric it was hard for some artists to know what to do with it. It was more of an aquatic ambient kind of world instrumental, but Glyphe’ heard it and grabbed his pen. It didn’t take long. He’d had tracks with similar beats and instrumentals before, and his smooth versatile style with real genuine lyrics actually saying something and even being inspirational fit right in. He stepped in the booth and out popped “INNASENCE” a song set to rekindle the spark in all women reminding them of their God given and blessed natural beauty, and how it can get twisted in this world but it’s understood and forgiven. We all fall. Get up. Keep shining. Glyphe’s range of talent was kind of unveiled in that moment. It was even mentioned how the only two who could pull of that track (and some others) was these two as a duo. Threaten these two with a good time, aye?
Track #01 - DePressure
"DePressure" was the first tracks we collaborated on, and was really the start of the group. It was done at T.S. studio on Sacramento St. in Altadena, CA, nicknamed "The Nest” which always had all types of artists in and out all day and night. If you went to sleep you might have missed the creation of an epic album. It was that kind of place. The studio buzzed with creativity with all sorts of projects being developed, from TRUE SPITTERS Vol. 1 mixtape, to the W.E.E.D. Radio podcasts, to solo albums from artists like Imani Akil, Lovey, Bing Bing (Mistah Wilson creator of The Pasadena Music Scene), Phil Phree, Sobukwe Toure’ (Hiii wAv) and a bunch of others. (For more on TRUE SPITTERS CERTIFIED and the VOLUME 1 Mixtape click here).
De Pressurised walk… One memorable night, Byrd had to go for a walk and Glyphe’ went with him. There was a pressure in Byrd’s gut and he was walking it off, clearing his head and burning off the acid (Phil Phree was working at a dispensary at the time… yeah… it was everywhere) and the TAM-PACQUIAO had kicked in (something that had to do with a tall oil-lamp like device filled with Tampico, the end result packed a smoky punch like Manny Pacquiao … Cypress Hill has songs about the events that took place… with the Dusty Springfield sample, yes). They were talking about life and music, concepts, work, stress and pressure, and freestyling, tossing around ideas and bars and the song formed during the walk. For instance, how they’d walked for a while and it was already the middle of the night, and they were pretty much resolved that there was going to be no sleep because they were going to actually make a song out of the bits they were coming up with, the line “Nope, no sleep last night… not at all, not really…” came about. Mavericks were had on the walk to kind of regulate and calm everything… “What? Menthols.” (at the fadeout at the end of the song). When they got back in, amid the chaos of everyone else working on their stuff, they headed straight for the computer and the booth and got to work.
Giggling at the genius of what they were doing as they were doing it, everyone else watched with eyebrows raised, trying to figure out just what was being pieced together… one track of doo-wop singing? Then layers of it? To a boom bap drumtrack? Is this Acapella Doo-Wop Hip Hop? WHO DOES THAT? The Adventures Of... As it was being built the song resonated with the essence of hip hop, which many modern artists seem to overlook. It was fun, creative, original… dope. It was one of those, “Y’all crazy… but genius” moments and The Adventures Of… as group was pretty much official. The collaboration felt revolutionary only because it’s the hip hop that folk don’t do anymore, that real hip hop content creators who call themselves artists nowadays have strayed away from (but everyone’s looking for) because they’re all trying to do “hip hop”, be “hot” and sell out or get signed instead of just being dope and focusing on making the one song (at a time). The Adventures Of… is driven by a desire for full creative control and a refusal to be confined by genres or labels with an understanding that God gave them the gift and time to do it, so make the most of it. Ever since, they’ve worked together in multiple capacities, pushing each other to innovate and challenge themselves, earning a reputation for for some of the most futuristic but on time needed unpredictability and inspiring others to elevate their craft. They’re the inevitable ones who make everyone nervous but excitedly assured when they come in the room. Guess folks know they’re about to have an adventure….
